Recently I’ve been taking a course called Leadership In Self-Reg Schools through the MEHRIT Centre. The program delivered by Dr. Stuart Shanker and Dr. Susan Hopkins takes a look at how we can better recognize and understand stress in children and ourselves so that we are better equipped to support others with self-regulation as part of teaching practice and school leadership.
Wanting to keep things simple enough so that we can reach younger children I thought it would be fun to compose a song as an entry point to introduce some simple understandings.
Here’s a quick demo of the song “3 Brains” (Lyrics below):

You’ve got three brains inside your head
Brown and Blue and even Red
Blue brain’s where you want to be
Watch for Red brain it’ll make you see
Warning signs are everywhere
So watch yourself and be aware
You’ve gotta reframe when things go wrong
Reduce the stress that’s going on
Reflect, connect be stress aware
Restore your energy without a care
But when Brown brain comes along,
It’ll put the brakes on this song . . .
You’ve got three brains inside your head
Brown and Blue and even Red
Blue brain’s where you want to be
Watch for Red brain it’ll make you see
Warning signs are everywhere
So watch yourself and be aware
You’ve gotta reframe when things go wrong
Reduce the stress that’s going on
Reflect, connect be stress aware
Restore your energy without a care
